Blueberry Cream Pie

Remember how I mentioned that Scott and I went to Maine on a vacation with his family and went blueberry picking? I had plans for those blueberries before we started picking: jam, blueberry squares, eating, etc. While Scott was paying for the blueberries we had picked, I was browsing in the "shop" and picked up a blueberry cookbook, which of course, I had to purchase. On the way back to the beach house, I noticed a recipe for blueberry cream pie. Since we had just picked a LOT of blueberries and I was eager to use them, we took a short detour to the grocery store to pick up some items for the pie.

Spicy Chocolate Crinkles

I’m going to keep this short and sweet because it’s hot, a Saturday, and I’m just feeling lazy. First I should tell you that I made these a few weeks ago before we went on an excellent vacation with Scott’s family to Maine. I spent a week hanging out with fun people, picking blueberries, kayaking, reading books, and eating lots of ice cream.

Strawberry-Rhubarb Crumble

Have you eaten any crumble yet this summer? Crumbles seem to capture the flavor of summer, and they might be one of the simplest baked desserts to assemble.

Cardamom Pistachio Bars

Several weeks ago, I made some cardamom pistachio cookies that were modeled after the mudslide cookies.  I whipped the egg whites, folded in flour, spices, coconut, and pistachios, and popped the cookies in the oven with hopes as high as meringue.  The resulting cookies were soft and delicately flavored.  I really loved them, but something about the texture and flavor combination just didn't seem right.  The flavors begged to be put in a cookie with a bit more structure.

Pasta with Roasted Tomatoes

Tomatoes are finally here!  You can bet that I am going to eat as many as humanly possible this summer.  In my world, there is nothing more perfect than a juicy summer tomato.  I am that person who glares at the red tennis balls that they try to pass off as tomatoes in the grocery store in the winter.  Why do they taunt us like that?

Black Raspberry Ice Cream

I happened to come across some amazing black raspberries last week.  They were incredibly flavorful, and I immediately started thinking about ice cream the moment I saw them.  When I was little, we lived in area where blackberries were prolific, and my dad would occasionally treat us to a batch of homemade blackberry ice cream with the berries we had picked.
